Flameless Oxidation

Our unique Thermatrix FTO (flameless thermal oxidiser) technology can be used to treat volatile organic compounds (VOCs) absolutely reliably and cost-effectively in waste gas flows. Conversion rates of > 99.99% can be achieved. The thermal oxidation is carried out at temperatures of < 1000°C. In the first place, this minimises the formation of thermal NOx (< 2ppm) whilst also ensuring that operating costs remain low. The Thermatrix FTO systems are available in model series for waste gas flows from approx. 700 to 135,000 Nm³/h, and are particularly suitable for the oxidation of halogenated, organically polluted waste gases. FTO technology works without any flame and well below the explosion limits, thus guaranteeing reliable, safe operation.

The patented Thermatrix FTO design consists of an oxidation container made from carbon steel lined with incombustible material with an immersion tube in the middle. The container is filled to about half full with a non-catalytic, inert, ceramic packing (matrix). The waste gas, air and support fuel flow from the top downwards through the immersion tube, are mixed thoroughly and then forwarded through the ceramic packing to the outlet of the oxidation container. The addition of the correct proportions of air and support fuel ensures that the mixture in the immersion tube is always below the explosion limit. Within the hot ceramic matrix, a ellipsoidal reaction zone, around 250 mm thick, then forms around the immersion tube, and the oxidation then takes place in this zone without any flame. The oxidation heat that is released is passed into the ceramic packing. The operating temperature is kept at approx. 980°C, thus guaranteeing complete oxidation with minimum thermal NOx formation at the same time.
